Farsta Vase by Wilhelm Kåge for Gustavsberg Studio, 1952

A tall ‘Farsta’ high fired stoneware vase hand crafted by Wilhelm Kage from the limited production G Studio unit of Gustavsberg Pottery of which Kage was its art director. Kage produced his limited art ware line from 1930 to 1960 bearing the name Farsta, a name derived from Farsta Bay south of Stockholm from where the clay used for the stoneware was sourced. Like all Farsta, this piece was hand worked from its inception through the stages of modeling, turning, cutting, incising, and finally glazing which was a unique process unto itself. The piece bears the impressed G Studio logo and word Gustavsberg along with KAGE incised below it as well as FARSTA impressed four times around the edge of the vase’s foot. Additionally, a ‘V’ is incised near the logo indicating by its code that the piece was executed in 1952. It has a repaired edge on the lower half.
