Reclining lounge chair and matching ottoman of chestnut from Russel Wright’s ‘Rustic Modern’ group, part of his American Provincial collection, Manufactured by Old Hickory Furniture Company of Martinsville, Indiana, the three position reclining lounge chair, aka ‘Morris Chair’, used a sophisticated metal dependent mechanism to allow the back to recline. Owing to war time restrictions on the use of metal in nonessential goods production, the chair was only produced for two years (1940-1941) before being discontinued. This model did not resume production after the war’s end although other pieces of the group did. Ottoman: 21.5"W 28"D 14.5"H
